Second Valley Forest is a large-scale pine tree plantation located in a southern region of the Fleurieu
Peninsula. The area where this recording was made (Witch Tree Hill) can be accessed from Hay Flat Road and
by following an improvised path to the a small clearing atop a shallow hill. The large dead gum tree on
top of the hill is a startling (and slightly unsettling) contrast to the tall pine trees which surround it.
Local folklore (or hearsay) suggest this was the site for amateur pursuits of the Occult persuasion in the 1970-1980's.
The forest is very quiet at this time of year (as it is mid-winter) and only the distant sound of cockatoos,
crows and the occasional finch can be heard over the murmur of the cold wind passing through the pines.
